Mangaluru: Corp Bank gets its new MD and CEO in P V Bharathi

P V Bharathi

, a banker with 37-years experience on Friday took as the managing director and CEO of city-based

Corporation Bank

. She is the first woman to head the bank in this capacity. A post graduate in arts (economics), Bharathi, a Certified Associate of

Indian Institute of Bankers

, who has done an integrated course on banking and finance from NIBM, Pune was the executive director of Canara Bank prior to her current assignment.


At Canara Bank as ED since September 15, 2016, she was responsible for many key areas including

human resources

,

corporate credit

,

retail banking

,

credit monitoring

, recovery, risk management, information and technology, audit and inspection, international banking, treasury and others. She has handled key responsibilities in branches, regional offices, circle offices and head office, covering a vast spectrum of banking operations.

She joined the banking industry as an officer in 1982 in Canara Bank and served in various capacities in branches and administrative offices of the Bank across India and Hong Kong. As GM, she was chief risk officer of Canara Bank. She has held various important positions in her career. She was Canara Bank’s nominated member on the IBA’s working group for standardization of procedure for empanelment of valuers by Banks.

The government has appointed her as Scheduled Commercial Banks’ nominee director on the board of India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited. Known in the industry for her result oriented and practical approach, teamwork and quick decisions, she has undergone many training programmes at prestigious institutes within and outside. She is an eminent speaker and has received accolades at various seminars, conferences and panel discussions.
