Major reshuffle in DK police after Bantwal murder
Mangaluru: Amid recent tensions in Dakshina Kannada, the state govt has initiated major reshuffles in the police department. Mangaluru City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal has been transferred with immediate effect. He will now serve as the deputy inspector general of police, economic offences, CID.In his place, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, a 2010-batch IPS officer currently serving as DIGP, (intelligence) has been appointed the new commissioner of police, Mangaluru city. Reddy is no stranger to the region. He previously served as the superintendent of police, Dakshina Kannada, from June 2017 to Jan 2018, during a period of heightened communal unrest. His tenure was marked by a firm crackdown on anti-social elements and the sand mafia. He also handled the Sharath Madiwala murder case.Reddy's transfer out of the district back then sparked public outcry, with locals launching online campaigns demanding his reinstatement. In related developments, Udupi SP Arun K has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada, while Yathish N was moved out. Taking over as superintendent of police, Udupi district is Hariram Shankar, a 2017-batch IPS officer. Hariram earlier served Udupi as ASP and later as DCP (law and order), Mangaluru city. Even after his stint as the DCP, he played an important role by assisting in several cases.
