MANIPAL: The 40-odd students of 2011 batch of BBA (Jewellery Design and Management) went through the induction process here at the Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management on Wednesday. They began their journey in the three-year course, one of its kind in the country, with assurance of a brilliant future, from K Shivram, director, World Gold Council.
The jewellery design and management course is yet to become popular, but students can look forward to a good career, Shivram said, while elaborating its importance today. The gem and jewellery is a growing industry and the increasing value of gold in the world market is indication of the kind of growth the industry will achieve in time to come, he said.
He also pointed out how gold helped Indian economy during recession. "The surging demand for gold jewellery due to increase in disposable income in the hands of consumers and expanding rural market augurs well for the future and you, too, therefore, have a brilliant future," Shivram told the students.
K Ramnarayan, vice-chancellor, Manipal University, who presided over the function appreciated the efforts put in by the institute in imparting realistic training to its students and congratulated them for choosing this unique course.
Col R R Pulgaonkar, medical superintendent & COO of Kasturba Hospital, explained the medical facilities offered to the students by the hospital.
Prof (Col) Madhav Shanbhag, director, MIJM, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief on the progress made by the institute.
