MANGALORE: Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Engineers' Association and Karnataka Polytechnic are organizing the 44th Engineers Day and 151st birth anniversary of M Visveswaraya at KPT auditorium on September 15.
The organizers will confer the Engineers Day honour on P Sudhakar Shetty, former principal of Karnataka Regional Engineering College. The technical model competition 'Do it yourself' for both streams will be held from 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

Conference on physics:
Department of Physics, Govindadasa First Grade College, Surathkal, is hosting a two-day national conference on physics on current advancements in physical science research and its applications 'CAPSRAA 2011' at the college from September 16. Around 350 delegates from all over India are scheduled to take part in the event, which will see 12 research papers being presented.
T C Shivashankara Murthy, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, will inaugurate the event. Deepak Mathur from TIFR, Mumbai, will deliver the keynote address.
Raviraj Hegde Kodavoor has been unanimously re-elected president of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd here on Monday. Hegde was elected to the post in a meeting chaired by former president and senior director of the union Jagadish Karanth. He will remain in the post for the remaining period of 30-months. Raviraj Hegde was elected earlier on September 10, 2009 for the post for 30 months.

Corp Bank honoured:
City-based Corporation Bank has been ranked Best Mid-Size Public Sector Bank in Best Bank and Financial Institution Awards presented by MCX for financial year 2011. M Veerappa Moily, Union minister for corporate affairs, presented the award at a function held in Mumbai on Monday. Ramnath Pradeep, chairman and managing director, along with Narendra Singh and Ashwani Kumar, executive director, received the award on behalf of the bank.
HC sends notice to BBMP
Principal division bench of Karnataka High Court has directed BBMP to stop construction of controversial Link Road (approximately 4-km-long) through biodiversity rich, ecologically sensitive and verdant forest campus of Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (UAS), Bangalore. The court directed state government to set up a committee involving chief secretary, environment secretary, representatives of the university, BBMP and IISc for resolution of the controversy.
Drawing contest:
KMC Hospital, Mangalore, organized a drawing competition on theme 'healthy heart - healthy habits' to have a healthy heart for students of Class IV to X. Nearly 400 students from across the city participated in the competition. Prizes worth Rs 15,000 will be distributed to winners on the valedictory function of World Heart Day Run on September 25 at KMC Hospital, Dr B R Ambedkar Circle, Mangalore.

Kanakadasa Research Centre of Mangalore University organized Kanakadasara Haribhaktisara Samakaleena Samvada, an interaction programme on poet Kanakadasa at Sharada College, recently. Litterateur Vee Ga Nayak delivered the talk. District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura presided.
Documentary on Bombeyata:
Origin and achievements of Sri Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Bombeyata Sangha, Kasargod, will soon be made into a documentary. Director M N Chambalthimar will make a documentary on bombeyata, which is also known as gombeyata. Malayalam film and documentary director M A Rahman inaugurated the Muhurtha ceremony for the documentary recently.
Writer honoured:
Noted writer and Kannada lecturer from St Aloysius College, Na Damodar Shetty, was honoured by Lecturers Association of the college on his retirement after 36 years of service recently.
