MANGALURU: The district Government Wenlock Hospital here will get a 24x7 medical store by January 2015, minister for health and family welfare U T Khader said here on Wednesday. A unique feature of the proposed medical store is that will also sell generic medicine to the patients, Khader said, adding the Government Wenlock Hospital here will be one among the several district hospitals in the state to get this unique medical stores.
Reviewing various development works in the hospital, Khader said drugs available at these 24x7 stores will be priced 20% lesser than the market price. At the same time, generic drugs will be sold at 60% less than market rate, he said. Incidentally, even the union government has drawn up plans to ensure availability of cheaper lifesaving and essential drugs to people by setting up generic medicine outlets in all government district hospital in India.
Indicating that plans are afoot to build a super speciality trauma and medicine wing for the hospital, the minister directed the hospital committee to draw up a plan for the proposed building. Khader assured to work out the funds required for it once the plan is readied and approved. On problems of water logging at the mortuary that had been renovated and due to be inaugurated soon, Khader directed the officials to address the same.
Taking note of problems that patients are likely to face in going to the second floor of the hospital where the new dialysis unit with 10 machines is all set to function soon, given that old lift breaks at frequent intervals, the minister directed authorities to address the problem. He also directed the Karnataka Health System Development and Reforms Project officials to regularly visit the hospital and carry out plumbing and other repair works.
