MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada District Ex-Servicemen's Association will observe Kargil Vijay Diwas at the War Memorial, Kadri Hills here on Friday at 7.30pm to commemorate the sacrifices of Indian defence forces in the Kargil war.
The forces were successful in driving back a well-entrenched Pakistani Army up to 8-10 km across the
Line of Control in Batalik.
Conceived under the titled Operation Vijay, Indian defence forces achieved the victory over this unauthorised occupation on July 26, 1999.
Ex-servicemen will light candles and place marigold flowers at the memorial.
Col (Retd) N S Bhandary, president of the association, said the association will encourage public participation in nation building, while remembering the sacrifice of soldiers in Kargil War. "This is small step on part of ex-servicemen in moulding the youth to develop a strong personality with courage and character," he said.
Workshop on patriotism With a view to inculcate a sense of patriotism and national pride among children, the
Centre for Integrated Learning in association with Lions Club Mangalore and DK District Ex-Servicemen Association will organize an inter-school workshop on Patriotism and National Pride at Lions Seva Mandir here on Friday to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The workshop will feature reliving the moments of the war with a series of activities.
This includes screening of documentaries, group discussions, lectures, patriotic songs and quiz on patriotism. Students will be divided into groups for interaction with ex-servicemen about their experiences. Four ex-servicemen will be honoured on the occasion for their services to the country.
