put up a united front in presenting their case to chief minister B S Yediyurappa when he chaired a district-level meet to review the flood situation in the district, here on Monday.

, the chief minister assured them that the government will do everything in its power to mitigate sufferings of the flood-affected people.

If Rajesh Naik, Bantwal MLA, urged the CM to consider the case of merchants in Bantwal who had suffered damage due to water entering their establishments, his Mulki-Moodbidri counterpart Umanath Kotian urged Yediyurappa to tackle sea erosion that he was said was rampant in Sasihithlu.

Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Mangaluru City North MLA, flagged the issue of around 500 metres of garbage at Man galuru City Corporation's landfill site at Pachchanady sliding down, burying houses under it. Around 25 houses there have to be shifted, he said. Former minister U T Khader urged CM to review his decision of enhancing compensation to people who have lost their households to the rains and further enhance it to levels that were given to Kodagu victims last year.

S Angara, Sullia MLA, urged the CM to consider cases of houses officially classified as partially damaged for compensation given to fully damaged houses as the foundation of such houses would be weakened beyond patch up work. Sanjeeva Mantandoor, Puttur MLA underscored need for government to announce a special relief package for horticultural crop growers in his constituency for the NDRF relief norms did not cover even basic costs.

Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said most MCC wards in his constituency are low lying and therefore prone to flooding annually. He also sought help to combat the dengue menace sweeping through his constituency.

MLC Ivan D'Souza urged the CM to instruct the district administration to take steps to prevent communicable disease that are common post floods. The CM instructed the DHO and DC to work with medical colleges and ensure that there are zero reported cases of communicable disease.
