MANGALORE: Sixteen classic cinema straddling genres and languages from all parts of the world will challenge the tenacity of film buffs for four days starting November 14, courtesy Karnataka Chalanchitra Academy International Film Festival that will get underway at the Don Bosco Auditorium here. The academy is organizing the festivals in six districts - Bangalore Urban, Shimoga, Dharwad, Belgaum, DK, Bijapur from November 8-20.

The classics that will be screened here include Belli Moda, Tied Hands, Turtles Can Fly, Spring Summer Fall Winter, Train in the Tenth Floor, Jumping Over the Puddle Again, Yesterday, The Chorus, The Battle of Algiers, City Lights, Pick Pocket, The Return, Pasanga, The President's Barber, White Ballon, and the Road Home. The four films per day will be projected in the DVD format through powerful LCD projectors.
Nithyananda Shetty, principal, Mahesh PU College, member of the organizing committee of the film festival told reporters here on Monday that the Academy has come up with a novel plan to organize International Film Festival in smaller cities this year and DK is getting the opportunity to host this festival in this coastal city. The above-mentioned districts too will stage similar events at a place and venue in the cities respectively.
An interesting facet of this film festival is that entry to the screenings is through delegate passes, which are priced at Rs 50 for students, and Rs 100 for the public. Daily delegate pass will be available at the counter for Rs 50. The delegate passes will provide entry to the pass holder for all the 16 screenings, and the daily pass for screenings on that particular day. One can watch one or all screenings on that particular day, he noted.
Delegate passes are available at Mahesh PU College, Kudroli, Mangalore, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pandeshwar, Ganapathy Junior College, Mangalore, Govindadasa College, Surathkal H M Somashekarppa, Mangalore University, Karnataka Government Polytechnic, Kadri Hills, and Ambit Computers, Gokul Market. The event is organised in association with Information Department, and Federation of Film Societies of India.
As part of the film festival, a seminar has been organized at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on November 14. Willy R D Silva, social scientist and visiting professor, Coimbatore University, and Abhaya Simha, director of awarding winning 'Gubbachigalu' will present papers on 'Cinema a narrative'. DC Subodh Yadav will inaugurate the film festival.
