Credai to train local youths for construction industry
Mangaluru: Confederation of Real Estate and Developers Association of India (Credai), Mangaluru chapter, will focus on skilling youths in various areas of the construction industry, such as masonry, tiling, granite works, electrical and plumbing, said Vinod R Pinto, the president-elect of Credai, Mangaluru.Addressing the media on Friday, Pinto said that Credai’s India chapter had started skilling manpower for the construction industry, before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it was halted due to the pandemic, and again resumed. “We want to replicate the same in our region too, where local youths will be trained for a few months with short-term courses, to skill themselves, so that they can fit in the construction industry. We have a lot of demand for local workers in construction, and the industry here depends on manpower from outside Karnataka for various construction sector works. However, their work output is not satisfactory, and needs to be reskilled. Consequently, we have decided to skill youths to work in the construction industry,” Pinto added. He said that earlier manpower for masonry work came from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. “Now they are replaced by workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It is the same with tiling work. The granite work is done by workers from Rajasthan, and it continues. Local workers are employed in plumbing and electrical work,” he added. Pinto also added that during his two-year tenure, he will also strive to fulfil Credai’s mission of ‘Home For All’. Meanwhile, Credai will also hold talks with the government to reduce the GST imposed on the construction industry. The reduction will help more people have their own roofs over their heads, he added.New teamVinod R Pinto has been elected as president of Credai Mangaluru for the year 2023-25, with Prashanth K Sanil as vice-president, Guru M Rao as honorary secretary and Sudeesh Karunakaran as treasurer of the governing council. The other members of the governing council are Pushparaj Jain, immediate past president, as well as SM Arshad, Rohan Monteiro, Dheeraj Amin, Avalon Patrao and Jitendra Kottary. The installation ceremony of the new governing body will be held on Monday.
