Coast guard comes to aid of stricken fishing boat off Karwa
MANGALURU: Indian Coast Guard and local fishing boats for the second day in succession mounted joint operation to rescue a stricken fishing boat in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district. While ICGS Rajdoot had come to the aid of fishing boat off Honnavar coast on Wednesday, it was turn of ICGS Ship C-446 to come to the aid of IFB Shri Durga (Reg No IND- KA - 02 - MM 5044) that had eight crew members on board, while it developed problems with her rudder and was drifting dangerously off Karwar.

The deputy director, department of fisheries, Karwar sought the assistance of coast guard.
Accordingly, the coast guard station Karwar diverted C-446 to render assistance to the fishing boat in distress. The C-446 on arrival at the spot assessed the defect and concluded that the boat would require towing assistance.
Subsequently, it requested IFB Gurujyothi Reg (No IND-KA-09 MM 1972) operating in the vicinity to tow IFB Shri Durga safely to Karwar harbour, DIG S S Dasila, commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, said.
