Karnataka mishap: 9-year-old shot dead; after air gun misfire by younger brother

KARWAR: In a heart-wrenching incident at Somanahalli village of Sirsi taluk, Uttara Kannada district, a 9-year-old boy died on the spot after being accidentally shot by an air gun fired by his younger brother.

The incident occurred at the house of Raghavendra. The deceased boy was the son of Basappa Undi from Hosa Kittur village in Haveri district. The family settled in Somanahalli for plantation work. The children took the air gun, which was used to scare away monkeys in the plantation, to play with.

In a playful moment, the 7-year-old brother accidentally fired the gun, hitting his older brother, who immediately fell to the ground, and died on the spot. CCTV footage of the incident shows the victim and a girl standing on one side, and the younger brother and his father standing on the other when the incident happened.

ASP Jagadish and CPI Shashikant Verma rushed to the scene for an investigation. Police have registered a case.

The body was sent to Sirsi hospital.
