MANGALURU: The book, 'Bandh Samrat-Tales of an Eternal Rebel George Fernandes', throws light on the socialist leader and former defence minister George Fernandes’s life, said author Chris Emmanuel D’Souza.
Chris was speaking on Wednesday about his debut book.
He said the book is available on e-commerce platforms.
“The books contain information about Fernandes which are not available in the public domain and obtained from secondary sources.”
Chris, a native of Mangaluru, works in Canada.
He pointed out that the book speaks about several mistakes and blunders that Fernandes committed during his political life.
It also focuses on his early life, starting from the Canara Public Conveyance Company strike in Mangaluru from where he started his journey and grew as a trade union leader in Mumbai.
“This book isn’t a biography but a collection of events, life experiences, deeds and misdeeds of George Fernandes that coincide with India’s political saga. The millennial generation is steadily forgetting its past heroes, and it has become increasingly essential to highlight some of the past glories of leaders that have significantly contributed to shaping India’s post-Independence political history. The book chronicles Fernandes’s early trade union activism in Mangaluru, his struggles in Mumbai, his rise and stardom on the national stage, as well as U-turns in an illustrious public career ranging over five decades,” Chris said.
Narendra Nayak, the president of the Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA), said: “One can love or hate George Fernandes, but one cannot ignore him. The younger generation needs to know more about him, and this book can help.”
