Madurai: A team of officials from the NQAS evaluation committee, alongside mayor Indrani Ponvasanth, conducted an inspection for awarding NQAS certification to Vandiyur UPHC on Friday.
The visit was part of an ongoing assessment to improve the quality of services provided by UPHCs under the NQAS programme, which aims to enhance healthcare standards through a three-stage evaluation process: self-assessment, state evaluation, and central govt evaluation.
The committee examined the lab facilities, medicine stock, and record maintenance, ensuring that various medical services were up to the required standards. Mayor Indrani Ponvasanth observed the evaluation process and interacted with the staff to make changes and make the UPHC ready for certification.
In Madurai, six UPHCs, including Masthanpatti, Munichalai, Anaiyur, Annathope, Thirunagar, and Sellur, were inspected last year, and all received national quality certification. This year, the Vandiyur UPHC is undergoing evaluation.
Following the visit, mayor distributed free bicycles to 252 students from different municipal schools, provided by the Tamil Nadu govt to school students as part of the state's educational initiative. The bicycles were handed over to 110 students from Sundararajapuram Higher Secondary School (ward 75), 69 students from Avvai Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School (ward 52), and 73 students from Pandiyan Nedunchezhiyan Corporation Higher Secondary School (ward 15).
