Virudhunagar: The
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government should be thrown out from the Centre at any cost in the coming Lok Sabha elections, said Marumamalrchi
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko.
Addressing a massive gathering at the Perarignar Anna birth anniversary conference at Virudhunagar on Sunday, Vaiko said the Congress party should not be re-elected at any cost. "The UPA government has betrayed the interests of Tamils in several issued like Mullaperiyar, Cauvery, Palar and Kudankulam nuclear plant," he charged.
On the national front too, the ruling UPA has failed to work for the interests of the people and instead only looted public money, Vaiko said. The country has not witnessed scams of such magnitude like 2G, Commonwealth, Coal, Adarsh housing during any period of history.
"Indian currency is losing value and so does Congress. Indian economy is going down the path of Zimbabwe where currency value has plummeted to bottom," he said.
Vaiko also declared that the MDMK would contest in the coming Lok Sabha elections. "Send us to New Delhi to raise our voice for the people of Tamil Nadu and fight for their rights," he said. MDMK would also fight for creating a situation conducive for formation of Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka, he said.
Vaiko gave a clarion call to the party cadres to commence poll work immediately. "Start the election work immediately. Don't worry about the candidates of the party in the Lok Sabha election. Assume that Pambaram (top - the party's symbol) is the candidate. Go to people and prepare them for the elections," Vaiko said.
Though Vaiko did not hint whether MDMK would ally with any other party in the elections, he made it clear that it would be fighting Congress. A resolution adopted at the conference stated that MDMK would devise a strategy that would target at ousting the Congress government. "Removing UPA from the Centre is the duty of every citizen who cares about the future of the country," the resolution said.
Vaiko took the opportunity to press the demand for removal of Sri Lanka from Commonwealth nations. "The Commonwealth meet scheduled to be held in Colombo should be stopped. Youth and students should struggle to prevent the meet from being held in Sri Lanka. I don't seek votes from you, but fight for this cause," he urged.
