Tirunelveli: Police have apprehended two minors for allegedly hurling casteist slurs at a group of youths in Veeravanallur on Friday.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the morning when the two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were riding to their agricultural fields via Nayinar Colony. They reportedly encountered a group of local youths heading to a nearby ground for kabaddi practice, leading to a brief altercation.
Police said the duo later threatened the group and used derogatory language, allegedly insulting them by their caste names.
The youths informed their parents, who lodged a complaint with the Veeravanallur police.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and lodged in a government observation home in Tirunelveli.
Further investigation is underway.
