Tirunelveli: The Tirunelveli district police on Thursday released three social awareness short films aimed at educating the public on key legal and safety issues. Superintendent of police V Prassanna Kumar said the initiative sought to "give a voice and dignity to vulnerable victims who are often isolated by society," adding that the participants were "very happy to be part of the effort."
Produced by the district police's social media wing, the short films focus on legal protection available to good samaritans who assist accident victims, the penalties for hit-and-run offences, and the immediate steps citizens should take in the event of a house burglary.
A notable feature of the films is the participation of individuals who have recovered after mental health treatment at "R Soya," a charitable mental health rehabilitation organisation functioning under the Tirunelveli corporation.

Written and directed by Venkatraman Murugan of the social media wing, the films will be released sequentially on the official social media handles of the Tirunelveli district police.
Murugan told TOI that they planned to make the awareness short film after the families of the recovered said the victims were excluded by society, and isolated.
SP Prasanna Kumar told TOI that in future, they are planning to make awareness short films and reels by inducting the vulnerable victims like women and children who are victimized in various sexual and harassment offenses, and the people who are targeted by criminal offenses.
