Ramanathapuram: A couple and their son died after a SUV collided head-on with their car near Kamudhi in Ramanathapuram district here on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Solaiyan, 55, Vijayalakshmi, 60, and their son, Solai Selvam, 30, of Thummuchinnampatti.

According to police sources, the trio were returning after offering prayers at their temple in Thummuchinnampatti. They were heading to Aruppukottai from Kamudhi on the Aruppukottai-Sayalkudi Road.
At around 9.30am, when the car neared the junction at Ayyanarkulam village, the car swerved to avoid hitting a bike that came across its path and crashed into an oncoming SUV in the opposite direction, resulting in the head-on collision with that car. The SUV fled the scene.
The trio sustained serious head injuries, and nearby people rescued them and sent them to Kamudhi GH, where the doctor pronounced the father and son dead. Later their bodies were sent to Paramakudi govt hospital for autopsy.
Vijayalakshmi was sent to Government Rajaji Hospital at Madurai for advanced treatment. But she succumbed to her injury later in the evening.
A case was registered by Kamudhi police, and further investigation is underway to identify the accused.
