A 25-year-old engineer from Tuticorin district, who was working in Chennai, committed suicide by consuming poison reportedly dejected after hearing the news of his lover's father arranging her marriage with someone else. ​​To make matters worse, the deceased man's friends ransacked the girl's house and damaged the property inside.

Tuticorin: A 25-year-old engineer from Tuticorin district, who was working in Chennai, committed suicide by consuming poison reportedly dejected after hearing the news of his lover's father arranging her marriage with someone else.
To make matters worse, the deceased man's friends ransacked the girl's house and damaged the property inside.
Police said the deceased, identified as R Muthukumar, 25 from Natarajapuram in Kovilpatti had completed engineering and was working in a mobile phone company in Chennai.

He had fallen in love with a woman hailing from his neighbourhood few years ago. Recently, the girl's father came to know of their affair and reprimanded his daughter.
However, Muthukumar and his lover continued with their relationship. In the meantime, the girl's family shifted to Kerala. Police said the father is a trader and was conducting his business from there. They rarely visited Kovilpatti and their house used to remain locked.
Muthukumar recently came to know that the girl's family was preparing for her marriage and since then he went into depression. On Thursday, he consumed poison in his room and died.
As the body reached Natarajapuram on Friday, a group of his friends in a fit of rage headed straight to the locked house and broke it open and damaged the things inside.
Neighbours, who noticed this informed the Kovilpatti west police station, who rushed to the spot and conducted investigation.
