Tamil Nadu assembly elections 2026: CPI, SDPI announce candidates
Chennai: CPI has retained four of its sitting MLAs as the party's candidates for the elections. Announcing candidates for all five seats the party will contest in the assembly elections on Sunday, CPI state secretary M Veerapandian said Thalli T Ramachandran (Thalli), K Marimuthu (Thiruthuraipoondi), M Ravi (Tirupur North) and P L Sundaram (Bhavanisagar) would be fielded again in the segments they are representing. P Mahalingam has been fielded from Srivilliputhur. CPI is contesting only five seats this time, down from six in 2021. Meanwhile, SDPI named its state president Mohammed Mubarak as candidate for Nannilam. A new entrant in DMK alliance, SDPI will contest the seat on ‘rising sun' symbol.
