Seven people booked for duping man of Rs 3 lakh in TN

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The

Virudhunagar

district

cybercrime

police have registered a

case

against seven people for duping a man of around Rs 3 lakh.

V Shanmugaraj is the resident of Sivakasi taluk in Virudhunagar district. In December 2020, he received a phone call from two people who identified themselves as Karthika and Karandeep Singh. They informed him that they were planning to set up a mobile phone tower on Shanmugaraj's land and they would pay Rs 30 lakh in advance and would pay a monthly rent of Rs 30,000.

The duo had asked Shanmugaraj to pay money to their account for transportation and toll charges to bring the materials to establish a mobile phone tower. Believing this, Shanmugaraj deposited Rs 3.19 lakh in the duo’s accounts in instalments till January 2021. Since there was no contact from the duo after the money was deposited, Shanmugaraj learnt that he was cheated.

He lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police on Thursday. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against seven people including Karthika and Karandeep Singh.
