Madras high court has directed the authorities to take steps to remove the encroachments on a govt poramboke land in Sathiyamangalam village in Kulithalai taluk, Karur district.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Janakiraman. The Kulithalai tahsildar submitted a report identifying encroachments on the land.
A division bench of justice S M Subramaniam and justice A D Maria Clete directed the tahsildar to issue notices to the encroachers under the Tamil Nadu Land Encroachment Act, 1905, and evict the encroachers by following the procedures as contemplated under the Act. The judges directed the inspector of police of Kulithalai police station to provide necessary protection to the revenue officials for the purpose of removing the encroachments. The said exercise shall be completed within 12 weeks; the judges directed and disposed of the petition.
