Pregnant woman killed as bus rams auto

Tirunelveli: A 27-year-old pregnant woman from Pattamadai lost her life in a head-on collision between an autorickshaw and a govt bus near Tharuvai in Tirunelveli on Wednesday. Police said the deceased, Syed Ali Fatima, was travelling with her husband, Sultan, 34, a resident of Pallivasal Street in Pattamadai. They hired an autorickshaw driven by their neighbour, Muhaideen, to visit a hospital in Tirunelveli for prenatal examination.While they were returning home via Tharuvai, a govt bus heading towards Tirunelveli from Papanasam collided with the autorickshaw head-on near Muneerpallam. The impact left the vehicle mangled, causing grievous injuries to Sultan, driver Muhaideen, and Fatima. Passers-by rushed the trio to Tirunelveli Govt Medical College Hospital, but Fatima succumbed to her injuries in the night. Sultan and Muhaideen are receiving treatment at the hospital. Muneerpallam police registered a case and are interrogating bus driver Jegan.
