Man undergoing divorce battle throws billhook inside court hall
Virudhunagar: A 36-year-old man, who is undergoing a divorce battle at the family court in Srivilliputhur Virudhunagar district, allegedly threw a billhook inside a court hall on Monday. Police have arrested the man, identified as Balamurugan. He was stated to be mentally unstable.According to police sources, the divorce case of Balamurugan, and his wife was pending before the family court.

On Monday, at around 11.30am, Balamurugan gained entry into the court complex by scaling the compound wall using a chair he had brought from his agricultural land and went to the court hall of the special court for SC/ST Act. He threw a billhook on the advocate's table during the court proceedings when the judge was present.He was immediately arrested by the police personnel who were present in the court hall. Initial investigation revealed that someone had given false information that the divorce case was turning against him; stressed over this, he was involved in this act. His case was to be heard on Tuesday.Police sources said that Balamurugan was treated for mental illness in Chennai's Kilpauk govt hospital for around six months in 2024. They are yet to confirm whether he is still getting treatment or not.The Srivilliputhur Town police have registered a case against Balamurugan and further investigation is underway.
