Man killed as roof of his house collapses during heavy rain in Madurai

MADURAI: A 44-year-old man died when the roof of his house collapsed at Mathichiyam in Madurai in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Balasubramaniyam. He was sleeping when the roof collapsed during heavy rain.

According to police sources, the house had a tiled roof and was approximately 50 years old. When rain intensified, its roof collapsed, trapping Balasubramaniyam underneath.

Neighbours, alerted by the noise of the collapse, rushed to the scene. They alerted fire and rescue services department.

Fire and rescue services personnel recovered Balasubramaniyam’s body from the debris and sent it to Government Rajaji Hospital for postmortem.

Mathichiyam police have launched an investigation.
