Madurai division surpasses freight loading target for 2025-26
Madurai: For the first time in its history, Madurai railway division crossed its freight loading target of 3.501 million tonnes for the financial year 2025–26 on Wednesday.During the year, the division handled 1.7598 million tonnes of fertilisers, 0.7993 million tonnes of coal, 0.0434 million tonnes of food grains, 0.0862 million tonnes of cement, 0.0065 million tonnes of containers, and 0.8629 million tonnes of other goods, bringing the total to more than 3.5 million tonnes.The division also achieved several new loading milestones. Dun peas were loaded for the first time from Milavittan to Dankuni Junction (Howrah division of Eastern Railway) with five rakes totalling 9,717 tonnes. Musoor dal was newly loaded from Milavittan to Azara (Rangiya division of Northeast Frontier Railway) and Manikpur Junction (Prayagraj division of North Central Railway) during March. Container loading to a new destination from Gangaikondan to Deshnoke (Bikaner division - North Western Railway) was also carried out with three rakes in Aug 2025.SPIC recorded its highest-ever monthly fertiliser loading of 0.1119 million tonnes in July 2025. TAFE tractor loading reached 125 rakes so far in this financial year, which is the second highest, compared to the record loading of 140 rakes in 2022–23. The division also achieved its highest-ever monthly loading of BRN (flat wagon) rakes, with nine rakes loaded from Vadipatti in Oct 2025, including six to Bhagat Ki Kothi (Jodhpur division of North Western Railway) and thee rakes to Dhanakya (Jaipur division of North Western Railway).
