Madurai collector inspects heritage sites
Madurai: District collector P Akash inspected the renovation and development work being undertaken at the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal in Madurai on Friday.
During the visit, he inquired with officials about the progress of work, including laying of flooring stones, site museum development, a sculpture courtyard, a rainwater drainage facility, and modern toilets. Following the inspection, he instructed officials to complete it quickly.
The collector also inspected monuments protected by the department of archaeology at Arittapatti, which houses Jain beds and Tamil brahmi inscriptions belonging to the 2nd century BCE. He also visited Shiva temple rock cut cave belonging to the 7th century. He directed officials to protect the monuments and provide basic amenities for visitors.
