‘Include IPC, MV Act in school curriculum’

Madurai: Outgoing Madras high court judge justice R Tharani has suggested that the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Evidence Act and Motor Vehicles (MV) Act be included in school curriculum.A function was organised at the Madurai bench to bid farewell to justice Tharani who attained age of superannuation on Friday.Advocate general (AG), R Shanmugasundaram said that justice Tharani had disposed of 19,401 cases during her tenure as the high court judge.In her address, justice Tharani said that the public at large are ignorant of the law, and therefore at least the IPC, Evidence Act and MV Act should be included in the school curriculum.Stating that delayed justice is denied justice, she said that granting interim relief will not solve any issues. People will have faith in the judiciary only when the entire issue is settled.Justice Tharani suggested that a system should be introduced to verify whether any litigation is pending regarding a property, so that a person who is intending to purchase a property can verify if there is any litigation pending. Expressing concern about children riding two-wheelers, justice Tharani urged the Chief Justice Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala to utilise the services of officers, advocates and staff of legal services to educate the school children regarding road safety rules and MV Act.
