MADURAI: A four-member

gang

attacked a 17-year-old polytechnic

and escaped with his

cellphone

in

Madurai

on Saturday.

The student, identified as S Rajapandi of Karuppayurani, suffered injuries. He got himself admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital here.

Rajapandi is a first year student at Government Polytechnic College in Kokkulam. During his free time, he works in a fruit market in the area.

The incident took place at Maruthupandiar Nagar when Rajapandi was returning home. A four-member gang intercepted him and demanded money. Since did not carry much money with him, the gang members demanded his cellphone, worth Rs 6,000. The gang attacked him with a knife when he refused to do so. They snatched his cellphone and escaped with it.
