Ex-army jawan sentenced to life for murder

MADURAI: Two people, including a former army

jawan

were

sentenced

to life by the trial courts in

Madurai

and Tuticorin on Friday, on charges of murder. Both had committed the murders due to property dispute.


In Madurai, Arumugam, 45, an army jawan had hacked his nephew to death after an argument over property in 2013. A resident of Thiruvengada Thacham near Samayanallur, Arumugam had served in the Indian Army as a soldier. A property dispute was brewing between Arumugam and his elder sister.

Meanwhile, in 2013, when Arumugam had come home for his holidays, he had an argument with his sister’s son, Subramanian. The verbal duel escalated and Arumugam hacked Subramanian to death.

The Samayanallur police registered a case of murder against Arumugam and arrested him. After the final hearing, additional district judge, S Karthikeyan pronounced the accused guilty and sentenced him for life and slapped a fine of Rs 15,000.
