Essor Gopi's farmhouse raided in Madurai

MADURAI: Police conducted a surprise raid at the farmhouse of Gopi, a key aide of suspended DMK leader M K Alagiri, in Madurai on Friday.
The raid had come as a shock to Alagiri men who were buoyed after the grand birthday celebrations of their leader on Thursday. Though police did not spell out the exact reason for the sudden raid, sources in the police department said that during a vehicle check-up on Thursday night, a car sped away from the police that was later found to have reached the farmhouse of
Gopi.Suspecting that the car could have been used for smuggling something, the raid was conducted, a police officer said.
Police seized an air gun, a sickle, a knife, wooden logs, three cars and a motorcycle. Alagiri men dubbed the raid as political vendetta.
