Madurai: Madurai’s Corporation Commissioner
Gaurav Kumar, carried out an inspection at the Mullaperiyar combined drinking water scheme’s lower camp head pumping station and the drinking water treatment plant operating at Pannaipatti, to confirm the drinking water supply to Madurai city under the AMRUT scheme.
During the inspection on Thursday, the commissioner checked the head pumping station at Mullaperiyar lower camp, the water pressure readings, the water held in the check dams, and the flow of water through pipelines to the Pannaipatti treatment plant. He then inspected the treatment plant at Pannaipatti, where the water meant for Madurai is treated, and reviewed each stage of the process, including raw water collection, adding chemicals to settle fine impurities, filtration, chlorination, and storing treated water in clear water tanks. He also examined how water is supplied through the pipeline network to overhead storage tanks and then delivered to consumers.
