Dindigul: Two executive officers of the Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department face disciplinary action after 17.75g of gold jewellery and a silver vel (spear) went missing from Palani’s Idumban temple inventory.
Official sources said that disciplinary proceedings under Tamil Nadu Civil Services Rules have been initiated against two executive officers, Vimala and Narasimhan.
The action follows findings that Vimala resigned to pursue a teaching career without properly handing over temple responsibilities, and Narasimhan failed to assume full charge of the temple duties during the transition period.
It may be recalled that 17.75 sovereigns of gold and a 52-gram silver spear (vel) were found missing from the Idumban temple inventory in Palani. The discrepancy came to light after Narasimman, the newly appointed executive officer, verified the stock after taking charge.
He found that the jewellery available was less than what was recorded in temple accounts. Based on a complaint by an HR&CE official, a case was registered on May 30 at the Palani town police station.
The Idumban temple, at the foothills of the Palani hills, is a key halt for Murugan devotees.
