CM to inaugurate Goripalayam flyover, Vandiyur park today
Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin is scheduled to inaugurate a series of major development projects in Madurai district on Saturday, including the 213.8 crore Netaji Subash Chandra Bose flyover and the 50 crore renovated Vandiyur park.The much-awaited Goripalayam flyover, with one wing connecting Tamukkam Junction and Anna Salai, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion at one of the city's busiest junctions. The structure is officially named after freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. In Jan 2022, chief minister laid the foundation stone for the Goripalayam flyover, and construction work commenced in 2023.

The redevelopment of Vandiyur park, meanwhile, is expected to offer residents a much-needed breath of green and leisure space. The project was announced in the 2023-24 budget of the Madurai corporation. The chief minister will also inaugurate a skill development centre at the ELCOT IT Park in Vadapalanji, along with new facilities at Sri Meenakshi govt Women's Arts College. He is also to unveil the statue of the Marudhu Pandiyar brothers and inaugurate the Vadipatti town panchayat office building. In addition, he is set to inaugurate a modern science centre by Madurai corporation and Ankuran Foundation, and the 1,536 crore drinking water supply scheme catering to rural areas.
Later in the day, the chief minister will participate in the southern zone BLA-2, BLC and BDA training conference at Kalaignar Thidal, Uthangudi. He is also scheduled to attend the "Remembering Bapu" programme at the Gandhi Memorial Museum, commemorating Mahatma Gandhi.
