Bank employees seek five-day work week

Madurai: Members of the united forum of bank unions - Madurai held a demonstration in Madurai on Friday, demanding the introduction of five-day work week.“Our major demand is to implement a five-day work week just like for others including central government employees. There were suggestions put forth to include an extra half an hour every day and have a holiday on Saturday. But, there is a delay in its implementation,” said Sridhar, convener. The protesters said that in light of negotiations with the labour commission, the all India bank strike that was to be held on January 30 and 31, has been deferred. tnn
