candidate Su Venkatesan, she said that this was the first time that artistes, film-makers and writers have come out openly to take a stance against a political party, to ensure that the rights of the people are protected. “They have openly said that they do not want BJP again, and this is the first time it has happened, against any political party,” Rohini said.“People are being told what to do, what to eat and which language to speak, and this can no longer be tolerated,” she added.
Rohini said that she volunteered to campaign for Venkatesan as the city’s foremost requirements - desilting and maintenance of waterbodies - could be made a reality if a person like him who is committed to the people and the region, is elected to the Lok Sabha.
Directors Lenin Bharathi and Gopi Nainar said the country was in dangerous hands, where the right to speech and expression was being curtailed. Actor Poo Ramu, said that people should not forget the hardships they faced due to demonetization and exercise their franchise on April 18.
Dr G Sivaraman, a medical practitioner said that he so far he restricted himself to advising people on healthy food, but now the time has come to speak about the political situation or else the country will lose out on its ‘golden hour’ which is April 18. People have to come together to vote for the betterment of the nation, and vote out the anti-people’s rule, he said.
Director Karu Palaniappan said that this was the only opportunity for people to remove the fascist BJP government which was dividing the people.
