Trichy: The Bhararathidasan University Alumni Association on Saturday presented a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to the registrar of the university at a function held at Khajamalai campus. The amount will be used to form a trust that would in the years to come honour the topper in M.Sc biotechnology with a gold medal.
Speaking on the occasion, vice-chancellor of the university K Meena said that alumni of the university should come forward to suggest ways and means to modify the existing curricula, based on their experiences in the industry so that graduates got maximum benefit during their education.
Inaugurating an exclusive website to bring all alumni under one electronic umbrella, the vice-chancellor said such a website should be used to mobilize opinions from the alumni for restructuring the existing coursework to suit changing times.
Meena said the alumni, in addition to serving as a bridge between old students and the university, should also bring to the notice of the university the achievements of alumni such as new findings in any field and papers presented so that they could be published in the university newsletters for the benefit of students. Dr S Sridharan, controller of examinations, Bharathidasan University, offered felicitations on the occasion.
Dr N Thajuddin, president of the alumni association, Dr S Karuppaiyan, general secretary of the alumni association, Dr G Mathan, treasurer of the alumni association, syndicate members, faculty and students were present during the function.
The alumni also presented 25 books to the university library, and various beneficiary kits to differently-abled students.
