9 held, 4 biowaste-loaded vehicles from Kerala seized

Madurai: Kanyakumari district police on Thursday arrested nine people, including a guest worker, and detained four vehicles for transporting biowaste from Kerala. The arrest came a day after one person was arrested and a mini truck detained by Aarukani police for the same offence.
Police arrested Kanagaraj, 50, of Chitharal, Aiyappan, 33, and Dharshan, 23, of Rathinapuram, Viju, 29, of Aramannam, Saindro, 25, and Dinesh Kumar, 29, Shainu, 24, from Thiruvananthapuram, Shahul Hamid, 30, from Kadayalveedu, and Haral, 30, from Assam.
Kanyakumari SP R Stalin warned that any vehicle transporting biowaste or medical waste from Kerala would be seized and owners and crew arrested. Surveillance on vehicles would continue in the following days. The district police had tightened vigil after National Green Tribunal recently made Kerala remove biomedical waste dumped at several places in Tirunelveli district in December. Police had then intercepted five vehicles transporting biowaste from Kerala.
