Dindigul: Four professors of Gandhigram Rural Institute (deemed to be university) have been included in the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists by a Stanford University professor, according to a statement from the institute.
Professor Ioannidis and his colleagues at the university have classified the world’s best scientists in 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields. At least five research papers published by these scientists are ranked based on field and subfield-specific percentages. The list consists of more than two lakh researchers across the world, including more than 3,500 Indians as well.
Among those included in the 2022 impact list are scientists from the GRI - P Balasubramaniam, department of mathematics, M G Sethuraman and S Meenakshi, department of chemistry, and K Marimuthu from the department of physics.
Balasubramaniam is conducting systematic research on transforming low-quality images into high-quality images using fuzzy logic approaches and detecting trauma in the patient’s brain through cryptography and processing technology. Sethuraman is engaged in the study of creating factors that inhibit metal corrosion using compounds from plant materials.
Meenakshi is involved in research to develop methods to remove toxic fluoride, chromium, mercury and toxins from wastewater by absorption. Marimuthu has been researching the emission of white light and laser light through glasses made of rare earth elements and is working on creating glasses to prevent hazardous radiation.
