Workshop on international commercial laws and arbitration held

Ludhiana: A day long international workshop on International Commercial Laws and Arbitration was organized on Friday at the University Institute of laws Panjab University’s regional centre. The workshop was a perfect platform for advocates, industrialists and budding lawyers to interact with distinguished personalities from different parts of the world and exchange their knowledge. The first session of the seminar focused on international commercial law. The session was chaired by Resham Garg, director, centre for Transnational Commercial law (CTCL), National Law University, New Delhi. The second session was conducted by Satvik Shekhar a legal consultant, at the Centre for Trade and Investment Law under the Ministry of Commerce and industry. The sessions was followed by an interactive round. Many myths related to International laws were busted during the interactive session.

Aman A. Cheema and Ashish Virk were the conveners of the workshop. An exhibition of paintings depicting different social issues was also displayed by Navchetna Child Support group. The event was inaugurated by Brijendra Pateriya, director, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana. Among others present were Ravi Inder Singh, director, PURC Ludhiana, Arti Puri, Ashish Virk and. Shiv Kumar Dogra. managing director of Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution of Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, USA. Simranjeet Singh was the keynote speaker of the event. He focused on issues related to international laws and arbitration. The event was divided into six sessions and each session was conducted by distinguished personalities of their respective fields. Sandeep Jindal, advocate on record at Supreme Court of India, Jaya Vasudevan associate professor centre for post graduate legal studies TERI School of advanced studies, New Delhi and Pushkar Anand, assistant professor, faculty of law, university of Delhi shared their views on international commercial arbitration which was followed by an interactive session amongst the audience and the speakers. The audience included students, research scholars, advocates as well as industrialists.
