LUDHIANA: Girls in the city, who generally moan the lack of options for fancy clothes in the winters, are no longer fussing over what to wear to a party.
They are turning heads while staying warm in designer woollen kurtis, coupled with a pair of leggings or jeggings.
Available in myriad colours and costing anything between Rs 700 and Rs 4,000, woollen kurtis are catching the fancy of both young girls and older women for their blend of style and utility.
Taranjit Kaur, owner of Taran Creations in Model Town, said she has a variety of designer woollen kurtis including hand embroidered and printed ones.
"In the winters there are fewer clothes that can be worn to parties or functions and even then there is the hassle of spoiling the look by wearing a sweater or wrapping a shawl. These kurtis are perfect party wear because they look quite stylish and keep you warm,'' she said.
Taranjit added that apart from college girls, many married women are also picking up the kurtis because they are slightly long.
Jaswinder Singh from Salujas in
Ghumar Mandi agreed that the kurti, which had gone out of fashion some years ago, has made a comeback.
"The kurti is in great demand among girls who are out on a winter shopping spree. The popular colours are blue, purple and peach to brighten up the cold days,'' said Jaswinder.
Flaunting her shopping bags, Ritu Bansal of Model Town Extension said she has bought two woollen kurtis - purple and pink. "I think woollen kurtis are a great idea. Now there are designs like middy style and so many colours too that they are definitely not boring anymore,'' she said.
Giving her opinion, a homemaker and resident of Civil Lines Paramjit Kaur said kurtis have become an evergreen dress for women. "In the summers there was a wide range to choose from and now even in the winters there are many nice designs and colours available in the market. I wore a long kurti and matched it with a stole, it looked trendy,'' said Paramjit.
