LUDHIANA: Two persons have been killed in separate hit-and-run accidents in the city in the last two days.
A 35-year-old labourer died when a milk tanker crushed him near Sidhwan canal on Tuesday. Vijay Singh was on his way to work when a high-speed truck coming from Dugri Bridge crushed him. ASI Ravi Shankar said that driver of the milk tanker fled from the spot and the victim died on the spot.

He was a resident of Passi Nagar, Pakhowal Road. Police have registered a case against the unidentified person under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304-A (causing death by negligence).
On Monday, a 27-year-old died when a car hit him near Delhi police station. The deceased has been identified as Arpit Shriwastva, employed with a private company. According to information, Arpit and his friend Amit Chopra were passing by Dehlon police station on a bike when a speeding car hit them.
Complainant Khushwinder Singh from Saiyan Kalan said that around 2 pm on Monday, a speeding car hit a motorcycle and then his cycle. Sub-inspector Ranjeet Singh said Amit and Arpit suffered severe injuries in the accident and were rushed to Delhon civil hospital, where Arpit was declared dead.
The car driver has been identified as Purinder Mahesh, a 28-year-old from village Bheni Arora, who works in an automobile agency. He has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50) of the IPC. He was arrested on Tuesday.
