Speeding car vaults divider in Ludhiana, 21-year-old driver killed along with courier company biker.
Ludhiana: A 21-year-old university student and a father of two were killed on Friday morning when a speeding car lost control, jumped a median strip, and crushed an oncoming motorcycle on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur elevated road. The high-velocity impact, which occurred near the Verka Milk Plant at about 8.30am, left the car's roof torn open and the motorcycle unrecognisable. Police say the driver of the car, an undergraduate student, and the motorcyclist both died on the scene. Authorities have identified the deceased student as Gauransh Basin, 21, of Kidwai Nagar. He was driving two classmates to their private college in Baddowal village when the accident occurred.
The motorcyclist, Jagdish Singh, 43, was a courier company employee from Dashmesh Nagar. He was reportedly returning home after dropping his two children off at school. Two other students in the car, Charanjot Singh and Arshnoor Singh, sustained injuries. Charanjot remains in hospital in stable condition, while Arshnoor was treated for minor injuries and discharged.Sequence of the CrashAssistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ajitpal Singh, head of the Raghunath police post, has claimed speed to be the primary factor in the tragedy. "The car was travelling from the city toward Baddowal when the driver lost control," the ASI said. "The vehicle crossed the divider and hit the biker, who was travelling in the opposite direction, dragging the motorcycle for several metres."The intensity of the collision was so great that despite wearing a helmet, Jagdish Singh was killed instantly. The students involved had reportedly established a carpooling rotation to commute to their campus together. Following a complaint from Jagdish Singh's family, Sarabha Nagar police have registered a case of reckless driving and causing death by negligence. While the driver of the car is among the deceased, the formal investigation remains open to determine if any mechanical failure contributed to the loss of control or if the road conditions played a role.
