LUDHIANA: The rain Gods showered delight for distributors and publishers participating in the book fair at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) as the venue had to be changed due to the showers.
As the exhibition was originally being held in the gardens of Mohinder Singh Randhawa library, it would now be shifted inside the halls of PAU Pedals.
Close to 38 participants are be exhibiting their books in the fair.
Due to the sudden change in the venue, the allotments of stalls was delayed, leading to delay in arranging the books and opening the exhibition on Wednesday.
PAU assistant librarian Suniti said, ‘‘We have changed the venue as rain played a spoilsport. It has ruined the arrangements in the garden but the publishers and distributors are happy over this change. We have shifted the stalls to hall of PAU Pedals. The bicycles of that hall have been temporarily kept in the library.’’
Anil Kumar, a distributor of New Scientific Book Company, Ludhiana, said, ‘‘I am more comfortable and relaxed as I don’t have to arrange and pack the books everyday. As the hall will be locked, the books will be safe inside.’’
TL Awasthi, a senior sales executive at International Book Distributing Company, Lucknow, said, ‘‘Staying in the garden during night to guard the books had become a problem. The rain showered so much relief for us as we can rest peacefully at night.’’
BM Gupta, the manager at Metropolitan Book Company Private Limited, New Delhi, said, ‘‘The arrangement in PAU hall is better. Even a little drizzle can spoil the books.’’
