Punjab: SAD-BJP protest against Congress govt's 'unfulfilled' promises
LUDHIANA: Taking a dig at the completion of one year to the announcement of development works worth Rs 3568 crores by local bodies minister Navjot Sidhu, the local leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bhartiya Janta Party paid tributes near foundation stone of ROB/RUB project for Pakhowal Road railway crossing on Thursday. While the Akali leaders paid floral tribute to the foundation stone, the BJP leaders put a garland made of lollipops just to symbolise the kind of false promises were being made by the Congress government.
The SAD BJP leaders said that when the Congress government was not in financial condition to bring projects or get the development works done then they should not have made so many announcements. The leaders claimed that local bodies minister Navjot Sidhu had made these announcements ahead of MC polls so that they could get public support and votes and now CM Captain Amarinder Singh has made announcements worth Rs 3600 crores ahead of parliamentary elections.
The district SAD president Ranjit Dhillon said that the Congress government is not in a position to do any development work in the city and to divert the attention of general public from these issues the congress leaders keep on highlighting other petty issues. He said when drug overdose death cases were at a rise CM Captain Amarinder Singh brought dope test for diverting the attention of public and now when they failed in fulfilling the promises they have brought Behbal Kalan and Bargadi case to defame Akali leaders. He said they will not let it happen and will fight against this injustice.
Meanwhile the state BJP cashier Gurdev Sharma said they put a garland of lollipops on the foundation stone because this foundation stone in itself was a lollipop for the common man. He said the Congress will pass rest of the years as well in the similar manner where there will be maximum announcements but no result. He commented that even the Congress councillors rued non development of their wards in the MC house meeting on September 4.
