PATIALA: The Punjab and Haryana high court has allowed

Patiala MC

councillors to initiate a ‘no confidence’ motion against mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu again, but those who had earlier been opposing the confidant of ex-CM Amarinder Singh are avoiding it.

The court had earlier disposed a petition filed by Bittu, allowing him to continue as the Patiala mayor. “Out of 39 councilors who signed the requisition letter on November 18, four have jumped to Capt Amarinder’s side. We do not have enough numbers to prove no confidence against the mayor,” said a councillor. Senior deputy mayor Y S Yogi said, “We would look for any possible legalities in the matter to take further action after looking into the court orders.”

On November 18, 39 councillors had made a requisition under Section 39 of the Punjab Municipal Council Act, seeking Bittu’s removal on grounds of no confidence.
