The deceased has been identified as Harpreet Singh of Khalor village. He allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to death in his village house.
Deceased’s father Jarnail Singh in his statement to the police had alleged that accused first got a false case of kidnapping registered against Harpreet and then kept demanding money for the cancellation of the case.
The police said that the case of kidnapping was registered against Harpreet Singh in July last year by the residents of the same village who alleged their daughter was kidnapped by Harpreet however later the accused landed in a compromise with Harpreet Singh.
The police said that complainant Jarnail Singh alleged that the cancellation case was filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court and its next hearing was on August 14 this year. He further told the police that the accused first agreed on Rs 1.5 lakh for landing in a compromise but later increased their demand to Rs 5 lakh.
ASI Balkar Singh who is investigating the case, said, “The complainant had alleged that the accused who hails from the same village was also mentally torturing his son Harpreet Singh and even stopped him to cross the street of the village following which he had to move from the backside of the village to go out for work. The complainant also claimed that the accused used to insult Harpreet every day following which he started remaining disturbed and on Wednesday hanged himself to death. The investigation in this matter is being carried out after registering the case against three persons however no arrests have been made as the accused are on the run.”
