Ludhiana: An election roadshow dissolved into a violent street clash between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress party loyalists in Jagraon, leaving an AAP municipal candidate and two others hospitalised.The confrontation erupted in Ward 13 on the final day of local govt campaigning when rival processions for Congress candidate Anita Rani and AAP candidate Sunaina Malhotra crossed paths. The verbal dispute escalated rapidly into reprisal stone-throwing, with both factions trading blame over who threw the first brick.State’s AAP lawmaker Sarvjit Kaur Manuke alleged that Congress operatives had initiated the ambush during Malhotra’s peaceful rally, forcing the AAP campaign team to seek refuge inside a nearby gurdwara. Malhotra, an AAP staffer, and a boy from the rival faction sustained injuries in the melee. A local resident watching the parade from her home window was also struck and injured by a stray stone.Congress constituency in-charge Jagtar Singh Jagga did not respond to repeated requests for comment.Jagraon City police inspector Parminder Singh confirmed that law enforcement has launched an investigation to establish criminal liability. Detectives have seized closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from two local security cameras to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the primary instigators.
