LUDHIANA: Melodious voice of Punjabi folk singer Parminder Sandhu that was silenced on February 5 owing to cancer is a major loss to Punjabi music industry. Singers and others paid rich tributes to her during the bhog ceremony held in Gurudwara Singh Sabha Model Town Extension on Sunday. Parminder had breathed her last in Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital of the city.
Parminder was born in Hisar in Haryana and had startedsinging at the age of seven. Her father Surjeet Singh Sandhu was also fond ofmusic and singing and had motivated her. She was disciple of Ustad Bakir Hussainof Patiala Gharana. Initially, Parminder sang many duet songs with Sheetal SinghSheetal, Surinder Shinda, Kuldeep Manak, Deedar Sandhu, Karnail Gill, Neki Kataland Jaswant Sandhila.
Lovers of Punjabi folk songs remember herduets with Sandhila. In the early ‘90s she had started solo singing andher first solo album was “Rangpur Rang Laonwaliye”, which wasappreciated by listeners. Parminder’s last cassette was “MastMast”.
