Missing Birs row: Don’t go to police, resolve it according to religious tradition, says ex MP Tarlochan Singh to SGPC president

JALANDHAR: In the wake of reports that

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee

is set to lodge complaint with police in case of

missing Birs

of Guru Granth Sahib, former Rajhya Sabha member Tarlochan Singh, who also remained vice chairman of National Commission for Minorities, has written to SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal that in place of giving the case to police it should be sorted out according to the religious tradition and action should be left to the

Akal Takht

Jathedar.

Reacting to the reports that SGPC is set to file a criminal case against the employees in this case, Tarlochan Singh, in his email to Longowal on Friday, has argued that till date police have never been allowed in SGPC and

Darbar Sahib affairs

.

"My request, please do not break the tradition and sort out the issue yourself in religious tradition. My appeal is that you and present executive committee and two former SGPC presidents along with the alleged staff members should seek pardon at Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority and leave it to him (the Jathedar) for any action to be taken,” Tarlochan Singh has argued.

"Please save the situation as enough damage has already been done to Sikhi on account of wring handling of the entire case. SGPC internationally recognized as an apex body of the Sikhs and we need to restore its credibility,” he has argued.
