Man shoots mom-in-law, leaves wife in pool of blood

LUDHIANA: A day before Karvachauth, a security guard shot dead his mother-in-law and seriously injured his wife over a matrimonial dispute in Nangal Khurd area on late Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Manjeet Kaur of Nangal Khurd. Her daughter Harjot Kaur, 26, has been admitted to a city hospital.
Police officials said the accused, Jagseer Singh, 28, of Rattowal village, who works as a security guard in a private bank in Ludhiana, was married to Harjot Kaur for the past seven years and had a six-year-old son.They added that the couple used to fight over petty issues frequently .Cops said in view of fights a days back, Gurcharan few days back, Gurcharan Singh, brother of Harjot Kaur, had brought his sister home.They added that on late Tuesday evening, Jagseer came to their home with his licensed weapon. Gurcharan had gone to play football in the village.
Police officials said the accused then entered into a heated argument with his mother-in law and wife after which he fired at them. They added that Manjeet Kaur died on the spot, her daughter suffered bullet injury in her chest.
Local sources said Nangal Khurd sarpanch Sukhwinder Singh, who is a relative of the Harjot Kaur, reached the spot and rushed the duo to a local hospital where doctors declared Manjeet Kaur dead and refer red seriously injured Harjot Kaur to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Meanwhile, cops from Sudhar police station reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
Police have booked the accused for murder and under various sections of Arms Act. Investigating officer Balwant Singh said a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused. He added it has been learnt that the accused is mentally disturbed.
Police officials said that sixyear-old son of Harjot Kaur was also present at the spot when his father fired bullets at them.They added that after firing around a dozen shots, the accused fled on a motorcycle. Cops said that the accused had fired many shots in the air a few days back at his in-laws' house, but they didn't inform the police about it.
Family sources said Harjot Kaur was operated upon at DMCH and the bullet was removed from her chest. They added that her condition is stable.
